Isn’t it amazing how much can change in just one year? How both you and the world around you can transform so drastically – yet some things remain exactly the same. I find it fascinating to observe what evolves and what stays constant.
Change can feel intimidating for many, as it often requires rethinking plans and becoming a new version of yourself.
As someone who embraces change, this past year has been an incredible journey for me.
With people and my surroundings shifting, I’ve learned one crucial lesson in life:
‚Nothing is promised. The only things you truly own are your soul, your heart, and your mind‘
If you can build a strong foundation in these three areas, nothing can shake your inner world. Even when everything around you seems to be falling apart and rebuilding into something new, you won’t fall apart – and I think that’s beautiful.
Throughout 2024, I devoted a great deal of time, energy, and intention to building this foundation. Here are some of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way:
1. Learn to Be Gentle with Yourself
When you approach your mistakes and “oopsies” with kindness, navigating unexpected changes becomes so much easier. Every situation you face is new to you – your first time experiencing it. You don’t need to have it all figured out or get it perfect. Be kind to yourself; you’re learning.
2.Celebrate Yourself
Congratulate your accomplishments – big or small – and learn to feel genuinely proud of yourself. One thing that helped me was writing down my weekly wins. No matter how small they seemed, there was always something to celebrate. Acknowledging those moments helped me recognize my progress and truly appreciate my growth.
3. Set Your Boundaries
Whether with new people or existing relationships, it’s essential to understand and communicate your boundaries. What are your dealbreakers? What behavior won’t you tolerate? What feels fun and energizing – and what feels like too much?
These were questions I asked myself this year, and the answers helped me define my boundaries more clearly. By distancing myself from relationships that weren’t healthy, I showed myself the respect, value, and love I truly deserve.
4. It’s Okay to Question Yourself, But Always Trust Your Gut
Reflection is essential in understanding our interactions with others, but sometimes clarity can be hard to find – whether due to our limited perspective or the guilt and shaming from others. In those moments, trust your gut. It’s the best version of you – the one that knows what’s right – speaking and guiding you, especially when facing new or uncertain situations.
This year, I learned to trust my inner voice more. Even when external influences clouded my judgment, my gut always knew the path forward. Listening to it led me to clarity and peace, even when the road ahead felt foggy.
5. Let Go of Anger and Resentment
Letting go of anger and resentment toward others is crucial for your well-being. While it’s healthy to feel and express anger, holding onto it only drags you down and drains your energy. Forgiveness doesn’t mean excusing the wrongs done to you – it’s about freeing yourself from the burden of carrying that pain. By letting go, you allow yourself to move forward with a lighter heart and greater peace.
6. Carry Your Inner Child with Grace
Staying connected to my inner child has been one of the most profound lessons this year. As children, we view everything with excitement and wonder. Changes don’t feel as daunting because they’re seen as new adventures. By embracing the curiosity and innocence of my younger self, I’ve learned to approach challenges with joy rather than stress.
Children also live in the moment. They don’t waste time worrying about the future. Instead of overthinking potential challenges, I’ve learned to focus on the present – on what’s right in front of me. By carrying my inner child with grace, I’ve discovered the beauty of embracing life as it comes, without overanalyzing what’s yet to be.
These lessons have shaped how I view life’s changes. What once seemed like obstacles now feels more like adventures!
Love, Ena
